FIRE DEPARTMENT EXPLORER

Overview

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the La Habra Heights Fire Explorer Program.  If you wish to become a member of the program you must report to La Habra Heights Fire Department at 1245 N. Hacienda Rd., La Habra Heights, CA 90631 at 6:00 pm on the first Wednesday of every month.

Requirements

Explorers:

- Must be between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age

- Must not have a serious police record 

- Must maintain at least a "C" grade point average in school

- Must be in good physical condition

- Must be willing to devote time to serve the community

- Must successfully complete an oral interview and physical ability test

Examination Process

On the first Wednesday of every month we will be conducting a physical agility exam and oral interviews similar to those used by most firefighting agencies.  If you do not report on the first Wednesday of the month you must wait to apply until the next month.

Attire

Wear clothes that will allow you to participate in the physical agility exam, but will also keep you warm. There is no need to bring additional clothes for your interview.

Physical Agility Exam

The physical agility exam will consist of a 1/2 mile run, hose pull, dummy drag, and hoisting exercise.  These events are run individually and timed individually.

Oral Interview

Will be conducted by La Habra Heights firefighters.  The questions will focus on your application, education, after-school activities, and your character.

Following the interviews, you will receive an email within 48 hours informing you of whether or not you have been accepted into the next Recruit Academy, which will start on the second Wednesday of the month.

Applications for the LHHFD Explorer Program must be completed before arriving on the first Wednesday of the month along with the Learning for Life consent form and Release of Liability form.  These forms are available by clicking the links below.
